Make Higher Education Affordable for All

Every Ohioan deserves the opportunity to pursue higher education, regardless of their income and background. Our state’s overall prosperity will grow with access to college and vocational training for our young people.

The reality is that many Ohioans struggle to afford higher education. Rising tuition costs, limited financial aid, and the burden of student debt can prevent students from pursuing their educational future.

Making higher education affordable for all will allow every qualified student to attend college or vocational training without the fear of crippling debt. Students from diverse backgrounds will thrive on campuses across the state, spreading new ideas and economic growth.

Our Budget Priorities

  • Maintain funding for higher education by raising the State Share of Instruction (the main way the state funds higher ed) by at least 3% to keep up with inflation.

  • Support young people in the foster-care system by funding the Foster-to-College Scholarship Program.

  • Encourage Ohio students to stay in-state for college by keeping Gov. DeWine’s proposal to allocate $200 million per year for the Ohio College Opportunity Grant (OCOG).

  • Allow OCOG to be used for more than just tuition and general fees.

  • Ensure students have access to healthy food by allocating $2.5 million to directly address student hunger.
